It’s World Breastfeeding Week, Mamas! We celebrate all mothers worldwide who are trying their best to give their child nutritious breast milk in the first few years of life.Â
We know that breastfeeding is a huge task, so we are sharing three tips to help you and your baby have a smooth-sailing journey.
Eat Nutritious and Regular Meals
When you are a breastfeeding mum, it’s easy to skip meals and live on only snacks and finger foods, because you are focusing all your time and energy on the baby. But mama, you need as much food as the baby and eating well is good for your breast milk supply.
Eat nutrient-dense foods that give you energy, fill you with good nutrients and boost your milk supply. Eat a lot of proteins and vegetables. Include carbohydrates and drink lots of water.
If you are cooking for yourself, try to cook in bulk so that you can quickly heat up food whenever you are hungry, instead of cooking from scratch.
If you’re ordering food from a restaurant, consider buying more than one portion of meal at a time so that you can save some food for later when breastfeeding hunger strikes.
Sit Comfortably While Breastfeeding
Many mums overlook this, but it’s important to sit comfortably when breastfeeding. When you are comfortably seated, your body is relaxed and you are able to direct your energy into holding your baby properly and feed them for as long as needed.Â
If you sit in an uncomfortable position, like slouching or bending your back with your head forward, you may get tired easily. You could also have neck and back ache, which could make you stop the feeding session before your child has had enough.
Always sit with your back straight against your chair, bed headrest or wherever you are breastfeeding. It’s also a good idea to support your back and your breastfeeding arm with pillows.
Get Help For Breastfeeding Issues
Breastfeeding your child is a beautiful experience that can come with challenges. From low milk supply to mastitis and bruised nipples, many mamas experience discomfort during breastfeeding.
If you have any issues while feeding your baby, please get help. You can speak with a lactation consultant for problems related to milk supply or improper latching. You can also see a doctor for nipple pains, bruises or cracks.Â
To prevent or treat cracks and bruises on the nipple, we recommend using the Amal Botanicals nipple balm. It is a 100% natural balm that soothes and heals cracked nipples. It is free of petroleum or lanolin and does not contain any essential oils that can be unsafe for your baby to swallow.Â
Breastfeeding your baby is one of the most beautiful aspects of being a mum. It fills you with joy and pride to watch your newborn be well-nourished from the milk you have lovingly fed them with. The journey may not always be easy, but with these tips, you can help you and your baby have an awesome time.
Remember mama, your milk is the gold that nourishes your baby.
